The Duvall Speaker Series Presents

Behind the Music of Call of Duty: Black Ops with Sean Murray, Composer

Wednesday, May 18th 7:00pm

Cedarcrest High School Performing Arts Center

Coming up next in the Duvall Speaker Series is Behind the Music of Black Ops with Sean Murray, Composer. Sean will be sharing the process of creating the soundtrack for the video game “Call of Duty: Black Ops”. Sean’s presentation will feature art and music from the game, highlight the unique challenges of scoring interactive media, and include his experiences working with Eminem, Warner Bros, and game developer Treyarch. The event will take place on Wednesday, May 18th at the Cedarcrest High School Performing Arts Center at 29000 NE 150th St., Duvall, from 7:00-8:30 pm.

Sean grew up in Santa Barbara, California, where he honed the craft of film composing by scoring dozens of student movies at the Brooks Institute Film School. He has contributed his considerable talent to over 50 feature films and television series since making his professional debut as composer for the action film “Scorpion” in 1986. Now he has defined the sound of Call of Duty once again with the Black Ops score, his second in the industry’s top-grossing franchise. His dark symphonic score is enhanced by an 80 piece orchestra.

"We are thrilled to have Sean as a guest speaker. I had the pleasure of working with Sean very early on in his career and have been amazed at his continued growth…His range is amazing, truly inspiring." - Tracy Beam, CACC President.

This evening is being presented by the Cascade Arts & Culture Council and the Duvall Cultural Commission with the generous support of 4Culture . The award winner of the CACC Screenplay Competition 2011 will also be announced.

On Wednesday, March 16th, the Duvall Cultural Commission held the first lecture in its 2011 series at Lake Washington Technical College. The guest speaker for the evening was Mr. Pat O’Connor, co-author of Rick Steves’ Irelandguidebook.

The 30 Duvall residents in attendance were treated to a fabulous slide show with lively and informative narration by Mr. O’Connor, clearly demonstrating the beauty of the land and hospitality of the people that are Ireland. Sharing unique personal stories and many others that described the rich, and sometimes turbulent, history of this amazing island, Mr. O’Connor held everyone’s attention and certainly whetted the appetite of more than one to travel to the Emerald Isle.

Taking everyone on a tour around the perimeter of the entire island, many, many great travel tips were interspersed throughout the lecture. How, when and where to travel so that the most can be made of money and time, were addressed specifically for each stop on the journey.

Following the lecture, all were invited to progress to the Duvall Tavern where a live musical performance by the band Bowi continued the celebration of all that is Celtic. “The Kilts are great!” one patron was heard to say. The lecture, the music, and the people of Duvall who attended…all served to create a great evening of information and entertainment. I would encourage those who were unable to attend, to watch the DCC web page for future events.http://www.duvallculture.org/

The DCC would like to heartily thank Susan Jacobsen and the Lake Washington Technical College for providing the venue, Brian Pattinson for sound, the Duvall Tavern, the Bowi Band, and Pat O’Connor for sharing his knowledge and love of Ireland. (Visit www.ricksteves.com for information about Pat’s tours to Ireland and lecture availability.)
